I was shopping the other day and the check out lady as usual asked me if I needed any bags and I as always I said no thank you I have brought my own which I have had for years as not to add to the enormous worldwide problem of plastic waste. I then proceeded to ask her if they were on commission if they sold a certain amount of bags a day because why do you ask and encourage people to take them, she answered quite offended saying of course we are not it’s just a question and I said politely but don’t you think the question doesn’t need to be asked, it’s actually the problem of the shopper as to how they will take the shopping home not yours, the lady then kinda agreed with me and then I asked if it was obligatory for súper markets to provide plastic bags and she said no, so finally our combined conclusion was, Super markets should NOT provide plastic bags anymore full stop, it’s as simple as that, if that happened world wide, we would reduce plastic waste massively and start conquering the worlds problem of plastic bags.
